The lines are becoming blurred between work and your personal life. One of the hardest things to do for high achievers is to relax and take a day off. In theory it sounds simple but putting it into action is another story. Oftentimes CEOs find it difficult to delegate and end up taking on more business responsibilities than they should.
Let me tell you that I know this all too well from personal experience. I remember a conversation where my husband told me that he felt like I was having an affair with my business. Wow, that’s crazy right? But it’s true ?.
I thought about my business when I woke up, when I went to sleep, and when I was away from it. My life was so intertwined with my business that I had to learn to set boundaries for myself to create a clear delineation between my business and personal life. It has taken me years to create business-life integration. Here are 3 CEO Tips that will help you learn how take a day off and not feel guilty.
CEO Tip #1 – Make a Mental Shift
Your business success is a direct result of your personal success. Therefore, self-care which involves taking a day off should be a part of your business strategy. You have to give yourself permission to step away from the business to recharge.
CEO Tip #2 – Processes
Delegating is essential to being a successful CEO. If you have a sound business strategy and processes in place you are empowering your team to execute on your business goals. Regardless if you are a one-person operation who hires freelancers or you run a multi-million-dollar corporation, you must have processes to scale your business. Document your important business tasks both big and small to ensure you feel comfortable taking time off in your business.
CEO Tip #3 – Scheduling
If a day off is not on your schedule, it’s a 99.99% chance that it won’t happen. Make a commitment to yourself and schedule time off in your business weekly even if it is only a few hours.
By following these 3 CEO Tips you are well on your way to enjoying a day at the spa, sleeping in, binge watching your favorite show on Nextflix or doing whatever your CEO heart desires.
CEOs don’t have to choose the ‘or’ option in life. Many people think you can either have success in your business or have success in your personal life. But, with a holistic approach to entrepreneurship, the right team, and robust processes, there’s no either/or option.
